HEALTH WARNING: SKIING CAN SERIOUSLY DAMAGE YOUR HEALTH
Specialty Assist Limited has reported that the Skiing season is now in full swing, and in January received more than 600 cases to assist holidaymakers after their receipt of assorted injuries and a few illnesses.
Knees unsurprisingly were the worst affected area for injury.
36.8% of cases were fractures
18.4% of cases involved knee ligaments
17.2% of cases were sprains
12% of cases were related to head or back injuries
8% of cases were cuts and bruises
All medical cases are managed by Specialty’s Assistance Team of full-time medical staff and multi-lingual case managers, who deliver round-the-clock case management and liaison services with the treating physicians to ensure that the injured party is receiving treatment under the provision of their travel insurance policy. Ultimately, when it is safe to do so, Specialty repatriate the injured party home via the most appropriate means of transport, which can include the provision of medical escorts and special air ambulances for the most serious cases.
