Trauma in Cyprus
Scenario:
Our client was a Mozambican national working in Cyprus as part of the Mine Action Division for a security firm clearing landmines. He had the misfortune of stepping on a mine which resulted in his left foot being traumatically amputated.
Our client was immediately admitted to hospital for emergency treatment and once he was sufficiently healed Specialty Repatriation arranged for him to be transferred by commercial airline with a medical escort to South Africa. Our local South African agents then arranged for his re-admission to hospital, in order that the leg stump could be assessed with a view to ultimately have a prosthesis fitted.
The stump had to be remodelled and prepared for the prosthesis, and 3 weeks later our client was discharged. Specialty Assist with the help of our agents in South Africa also made arrangements for our client to stay in local accommodation near the hospital until the process of fitting the prosthesis and a course of physio-therapy was completed.
The prosthesis fitting was a success and we then arranged his repatriation to Mozambique shortly thereafter.
