Simple & Straightforward
Scenario:
Many times during the year Specialty are required to provide simple assistance functions. An insured is admitted overnight with a minor illness and they need their medical expenses authorised so they can be discharged and get on with their travel plans-simple and straight forward.
A 22 year old was admitted to hospital with dehydration following a stomach upset in a small town about an hour from Santiago, Chile. She was admitted overnight and after being successfully treated was considered fit for discharge. The patient had insufficient funds to cover these unforeseen expenses so contacted Specialty to request assistance with her medical bills.
The hospital was not used to dealing with International patients and refused to accept any form of written document confirming a guarantee of expenses. They insisted on having cash settlement or the patient’s passport, which had been taken as security on admission, would not be released.
Specialty have close links to Underwriters at Lloyds of London. We made contact with the appropriate Lloyds agency department and they in turn called their Santiago agent who provided them with a reference and reassurance that they could represent Specialty on a trust basis without risk. When Specialty contacted them 30 minutes later, they immediately arranged to send a representative with cash to ensure the patient was discharged without further delay.
A claim with a novel, speedy and efficient conclusion.
