Conditions Applicable
International Medical Assistance (IMA) is a prepaid evacuation and repatriation membership programme.
As an IMA member, if you are hospitalized more than 99 miles away from home, IMA membership will provide medical evacuation and repatriation services to a hospital of your choice or a specialist hospital, if necessary in a medically equipped and staffed aircraft.
Anyone under the age of 75 can apply for membership.
IMA will make all arrangements for medical evacuation and repatriation.
Both the originating and receiving hospital must be reasonably accessible by ground ambulance to transport the member to and from an airfield capable of accommodating an authorised aircraft.
You must be hospitalised as an inpatient more than 99 miles from your primary residence as it appears in your enrolment application and admitted as an inpatient at the hospital to which you are being repatriated.
If the medical condition allows, you will be transported by scheduled airline, or any other form of appropriate transport while in the care of the IMA medical team.
Evacuation flights may be performed if you need to be hospitalised as an inpatient and the remaining inpatient stay can be completed at a hospital nearer your home and you are not able to return to a hospital nearer your home via commercial airline without medical escort.
Decisions concerning the urgency, timing and most suitable means of transportation will be made by the IMA medical after consultation with the local attending physician and the receiving physician.
Restrictions:
Due to the high risk of sending registered aircraft and personnel into countries where travel restrictions have been issued, membership services are subject to exclusion in these areas.
General
Family members, business associates, and/or travelling companions may accompany the patient at no additional cost on IMA authorised aircraft during transport, provided space is available and the patient care is not compromised.
On scheduled commercial aircraft, companions will be responsible for their own airfare.
While IMA make every effort to accommodate its members, the patient and any accompanying passenger(s) are limited to one small carry-on bag each due to limited space available on medical aircraft.
IMA will arrange for additional luggage to be forwarded at the member’s expense.
A family membership shall include the named primary member, his or her spouse, and up to three of their unmarried dependent children (including step, foster or legally adopted children) under the age of 19, or up to age 23 if a full-time student in actual attendance at an accredited school or college and dependent on the primary member for support and maintenance. If a birth or legal adoption occurs during the year of a family membership, the new dependent is automatically covered upon notification.
Pre-existing Conditions Exclusion
The Silver and Gold Membership programmes exclude all pre-existing medical conditions. The exclusion shall not apply if such condition has been without the necessity of medical consultation or treatment for 24 consecutive months prior to the original inception date or any subsequent renewal date of membership.
